Bruce, I too noticed the funny quirk of shifting into fith gear. I went through the same hassles you did when the bike was under warranty and learned to live with it. It has not been any worse. Your explanation sounds reasonable. Let's face it, the Savage does have a few quirks. Sometimes that's what makes it unique.
